ABSTRACT

In this paper, performance evaluation of Elele 11kV distribution substation was carried out to using reliability method in order to ascertain the condition of its component and overall system condition under one year (January to December, 2023) of investigation. Analytical method of reliability was implemented in Matrix laboratory software (MATLAB) was employed to determine the substation key availability indices based on the outage frequency and duration data gotten from the utility company. The results obtained indicates that transformer failure followed by the fuse failure contributes most to the substation’s unavailability under the one-year review, with annual failure rate of 0.0031f/hrs and 0.00615f/hrs respectively. In addition, the network has a SAIFI of 0.767, SAIDI of 3.818, CAIDI of 4.98 and ASAI of 88.8%. The overall system availability of 89% as against the 99.9989% IEEE benchmark shows that the substation performance is poor and need to be improved upon in order enhance its availability. Necessary recommendations were made so that the operators can intensify effort in reducing both component outage and duration, when it is faulty so as to improve availability and reliability of the substation having a single-end fed radial configuration.
