THE INFLUENCE OF BOLLYWOOD ON INDIAN ENGLISH LITERATURE

Dr. Mahendra Kumar Sahebrao Shinde
Page No. : 132-136

ABSTRACT

Bollywood, India’s dynamic and influential film industry, has profoundly shaped the nation’s cultural ethos, extending its reach into Indian English literature. This paper explores the symbiotic relationship between Bollywood and Indian English literature, focusing on how cinematic narratives, motifs, and thematic constructs influence contemporary literary works. Bollywood’s penchant for storytelling, characterized by its dramatic arcs, vivid characterizations, and socio-cultural commentary, often mirrors the complexities of Indian society. Indian English writers draw from these cinematic elements, incorporating visual storytelling techniques, cultural motifs, and the vibrant essence of Bollywood into their narratives. This confluence enables a deeper portrayal of India’s societal intricacies and the diasporic experiences of its people. Furthermore, as Bollywood adapts literary works into films, it fosters a dialogue that enriches both mediums. By examining this interplay, the paper underscores how Bollywood and Indian English literature collectively reflect the evolving identity of Indian culture amidst globalization.
