Page No. : 109-113

ABSTRACT

‘Metamovie’ is a cinematic device similar to narrative literary device ‘metafiction’. Metamovie means movie about movie or movie within movie. It has become the powerful tool in postmodern cinema but it is rooted in former authors and works, by examining its most outstanding features and its most representative examples both in literature and film. The present research paper focuses on the Vikramjit Singh’s written and directed movie Roy, released on Feb. 13, 2015. This movie revolves around Kabir Grewal, role performed by Arjun Rampal, a Casanovic film maker and screenwriter is making multiple films, GUNS Trilogy, based on a thief’s life and robberies, all achieving high success. In order to shoot his third instalment i.e. GUNS 3, he goes to Malaysia, where he meets a London based film-maker Ayesha Aamir (Jacqueline Fernandez). Kabir and Ayesha get friendly and soon fall in love. The third sequel of Kabir’s GUNS woven around an infamous art thief named Roy. Kabir’s life and the GUNS story of Roy move parallel. Portrayal of Roy’s character is influenced by Kabir’s real life incidents. Here, metamovie doesn’t affect the content of the movie or the life of Kabir; but Kabir’s personal life affects the action and moves of the protagonist of the movie, Roy.
