Page No. : 23-29

ABSTRACT

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) constitute a significant public health concern, leading to increased hospital admissions and healthcare costs. This research paper aims to comprehensively analyze patient admissions in hospitals attributable to ADRs, shedding light on the prevalence, characteristics, and associated factors of these incidents. By leveraging electronic health records and clinical databases, we conducted a retrospective cohort study encompassing a diverse patient population. Our study’s objectives were to identify the primary culprits behind ADR-related admissions, elucidate patient demographics, and ascertain the clinical contexts in which ADRs predominantly occur. The findings of this research underscore the substantial burden imposed by ADRs on healthcare systems, revealing a considerable proportion of hospital admissions directly linked to these events. We provide a detailed breakdown of the types of ADRs encountered, with a focus on severe or life-threatening reactions. Additionally, we analyze patient profiles, highlighting vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and those with comorbidities, who face a heightened risk of ADR-related hospitalization. Moreover, we explore the common drug classes implicated in these incidents, offering insights into areas where enhanced pharmacovigilance may be warranted. This study not only contributes to the current understanding of ADRs but also underscores the need for proactive measures to mitigate their impact on patient health and healthcare resources. The implications of our findings extend to healthcare providers, policymakers, and pharmaceutical companies, emphasizing the importance of continued monitoring, improved drug safety protocols, and patient education to prevent and manage ADRs effectively. As ADRs persist as a substantial challenge in modern healthcare, our research serves as a foundation for evidence-based strategies aimed at reducing their incidence and improving patient outcomes.
