Dr. Nisha Mohan
Page No. : 139-143

ABSTRACT

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a major role in the selection of the drafting board. He strongly argued for Jawaharlal Nehru on key issues such as fundamental rights, the position of Prime Minister, the presidential election process, and the status of Kashmir. "Iron Man controlled Congress so that the constitution that came out of him could bear his stamp and be appropriately called Patel’s constitution”. Indian principles, an activist, Patel spoke in the Constituent Assembly only when necessary, but his influence on the constitution was much broader than his involvement in debate. In 1991 he was conferred on as ’Bharat Ratna’ award for his valuable services to the country. He was, indeed, a great freedom fighter. He was well known for his skill, wisdom, tact and foresight. Honest in word and deed, he was a superhero among heroes.
