The purpose of this research study is to examine the behaviour of
major mergers and acquisitions in the Indian banking sector. Numerous
international and domestic banks are in the process of merging and acquiring
one another. The primary reason for engaging in this activity is to capitalise
on economies of scale. It is one way to ensure the establishment of a
competitive force in the international economy. Mergers and acquisitions of the
Indian banking sector based on commercial considerations and business strategy
are a necessary pre-requisite. Banking is a rapidly growing industry in India
at the moment.
