LEVELS OF EDUCATIONAL ATTAINMENT IN VILLAGE BAS MUTSIL RANILA: A CASTE-WISE ANALYSIS

ABSTRACT

In the present research paper an attempt has been made to analyse the caste-wise levels of educational attainment in village Bas MutsilRanila. There are thirteen castes Rajput, Brahman, and Baniya (General population), Khati, Kumhar, Ahir, Nai, Maniyar and Lohar (Other Backward Castes) Chamar, Balmiki, Sirkiband and Doom (Scheduled Castes) lived in the village. Primary data has been collected from the 203 sample households. Caste-wise distribution of educated persons in different levels of education has been worked out. Thereafter, the weighted score has been derived to assess the levels of educational attainment among various castes. On the basis of total weighted score, the rank has been assigned to each caste. It is found that more than 85 percent educated person obtained education up to plus two levels. About nine percent persons obtained the education up to graduation level and less than two per cent persons recorded in post graduation level in the study area. Finally, it is recorded that Sirkiband caste belongs to Scheduled Castes obtained first rank followed by Brahman caste (general population) and Chamar caste (Scheduled Castes).  The Doom caste has obtained lowest rank in the study area.
