Government and individuals recognize that what we consume has both
positive and negative impacts on our health and well being. According to the
United Nations world food program, more than 850 million people are
malnourished, mostly in developing world. Given the relationship between diet
and health, Government is under pressure to intervene. Due to poor sanitation
and congested living with 4 to 5 people in 10 m2 room, they often
suffer from contiguous diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, dengue and
pneumonia etc., considering the living standard of slum dwellers, govt. have
started informal education, health camping and training on sanitation,
immunization, blood donation etc. The major findings of the studies revealed
that among the urban slum population, the majority have an adequate calorie
intake which mainly derives from cereals. In this research paper, we plan to
study the present health hygiene and nutritional status of poor people living
in slum areas. We will create an awareness campaign to promote feasible
solutions, including influencing the daily practices of the people to improve
their health conditions. We will build up a close relation with the slum people
for their improvement of health, hygiene and nutritional status in the
community. We will identify the root of the problem and will work collectively
keeping humanity in mind. This marks the main goal of this paper.
