A LITERATURE REVIEW ON STRESS MANAGEMENT & WORKING COUPLES

ABSTRACT

We can say that in a metropolitan city professional couples having child(ren) and of nuclear family set up are suffering mainly from stress, related to work, family and work-family conflict. Levels of being stressed may be depending upon their perspective towards the stressful situation and accordingly the techniques they use to handle the situation. In the whole process of stress management couples’ rationality, time-management, both of the spouses’ participation in household matters, emotional understanding for each other play important role. It is also significant the way they utilise their sources of social support to reduce their stress and the way they too become other’s source of social support. Because social support or the assistance derived from the personal relationships which involves relatively frequent interactions and strong positive feelings. These social networks can provide the individual with emotional support and instrumental assistance in coping with stressful events. The present paper attempts to provide insights into the previous literature regarding working couples and stress management.
