CHALLENGES AND PROBLEMS OF WORKING WOMEN IN INDIAN CONTEXT: AN OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT

India is a traditional country and there is diversity in religions, culture and customs. Role of the women in India mostly is household and limited to domestic issues. In some cases women can find employment as nurses, doctors, teachers in the caring and nurturing sectors. But even if well qualified women engineers or managers or geologists are available, preference will be given to a male of equal qualification. The main objective of the study was to understand the problems and issues faced by urban working women in India. The objectives also included identifying the key socioeconomic attributes contributing to women’s status, safety and security, and to study women’s involvement in various activities/ organizations for improving family, community and society. The present study investigated to identify the factors preventing women employees from aspiring for higher posts and challenges & problems faced by women workers.
