We know the fact that landslides are one of the most devastating and
recurring natural disasters and have affected several mountainous regions
across the globe. Therefore most of the countries with high mountains have to
face problem of landslides. On the contrary, landslides during monsoon occur commonly
in the region of Himalayas. Moreover, landslides affect the key economic
sectors such as transportation and agriculture and often leading to loss of
lives. The region of Himalayas is prone to 15 percent of the global
rainfall-induced landslides. Likewise, the high exposure to landslide risk has
made the Indian Himalayas receive growing attention by the landslides
community. Therefore, a review of landslides studies conducted in this region
is very important to provide a general picture of the state-of-the-art, a
reference point for researchers and practitioners working in this region for
the first time. Consequently they highlight some major contours of landslides
in Himalayan regions in the recent years. The present research paper also
points out some major landslides in Himalayan region in India including the
causes and effects of landslides.
