PORTRAYAL OF MIRIAM AS A DREAMING WOMAN IN D.H. LAWRENCE’S NOVEL ‘SONS AND LOVERS’

ABSTRACT

D.H. Lawrence in ’Sons and Lovers’ depicts Miriam as one of those dreaming women. He endeavors to make a target evaluation of the shortcoming and the disappointments of the ’otherworldly women’ as all ’dreaming women’ will in general turn into. The fact is that ‘Sons and Lovers’ is a remarkable novel written by D.H. Lawrence. This novel indicates Lawrence’s personal feelings and concerns during his youthful years. That is why; Miriam has been characterized as a ‘dreaming woman’. Lawrence’s own interest during his energetic years (1903 - 1914) was a kind of new Woman whom he alluded to differently as the dreaming woman. The complex and frequently conflicting components which made up this idea of New Woman is a determined them in Lawrence’s initial work in his depiction of the dreaming woman. These women are liberated, taught and keen; they are animating sidekicks and are frequently essential in the profound advancement of the men with whom they are invigorating buddies and are regularly significant in the otherworldly improvement of the men with whom they are included; yet they can’t, or won’t fulfill these men’s sexual cravings. The present research paper highlights Miriam’s character as a dreaming woman as depicted in the novel ‘Sons and Lovers’.
