The principalof democratic decentralization has madedistrict as
nodal points or the general administration and contributing to the welfare of
the people. Withthe creation of District panning Committee (DPC) the focus of
development plan has been shifted from macro to micro level planning
considering district as unit for the execution of development plans. Therefore,
the objective of the present study is to review the present role and future
expectationsfrom theseinstitutions in a complex set of demographic, economic
and political conditions of the contemporary society.
