ABSTRACT

The question "What came first, the chicken or the egg?" has been a longstanding conundrum. The Bible states that God created birds initially, suggesting that hens among these birds lay the initial eggs, which subsequently developed into chicks. Hatching is an inherent process. In this context, a hatchery refers to a facility where eggs are incubated under artificial circumstances. In contemporary chicken industry terminology, the word hatchery refers to the sector involved in the production and delivery of day-old chicks. A hatchery may function as an integral component of a breeding farm or operate as a franchiser or sub-franchiser for the production of parent and day-old chicks for broiler or layer poultry. The farm hatchery may be expanded to include an entity that does not retain or breed animals but just acquires hatching eggs for the production of day-old chicks. Organisations that produce day-old chicks only to meet their own avian requirements are not classified as hatcheries.India has 4% of the world’s water resources and makes up 2.4% of its total land area. Approximately 17% of the world’s population and 15% of its livestock depend on these natural resources. About 14% of the country’s GDP comes from agriculture and related industries. However, it provides for around half of the nation’s population. Additionally, it supplies raw materials for the agro-based sectors that have grown significantly in the last several years. Therefore, increasing the development and output of the agriculture sector is essential to achieving the 8 percent GDP objective, delivering food, and raising income (Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, New Delhi, 2018). Development in the agriculturally related industries of forestry, cattle husbandry, and fisheries is required. The elimination of poverty and the modernisation of society are the results of the expansion of the farm and related industries. Therefore, it appears that the growth of agriculture holds the key to the advancement of our whole economy (Agriculture Policy in India, 2017).
