SOCIAL MEDIA AND CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY IN THE INDIAN CONTEXT

ABSTRACT

In this research paper, the social impact of social media along with social change in present India and the role of social media in the increasing crimes against women in the society have been studied. The objective of this research is to study the appropriateness and significance of the previously made rules and laws to prevent and control the crimes against women related to social media in the society and to find out how meaningful such laws are in preventing these crimes and giving appropriate punishment to the criminal. Is it necessary to amend them? Should new rules and laws be made in their place? The conclusions that we got from the data obtained in this research study make it clear that even today women are victims and unsafe of crimes related to social media. Therefore, it is suggested that amendment in the laws made related to this and creation of new laws is also necessary so that the increasing crimes against women can be stopped and women can stay safe in the society and develop themselves and the country.
