AN ENQUIRY INTO THE LEVELS OF WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT: (A CASE STUDY OF BIJNOR DISTRICT)

ABSTRACT

An attempt has been made to summarise the variation in women’s empowerment across blocks/cities and to highlight the multi dimensionality of empowerment measurements for each block. We have identified 13 indicators/ groups of indicators and ranked all blocks/cities according to these indicators. Rakings are provided for each block/city on each indicator/ set of indicators, on the groups of indicators identified as measuring the three different facets of empowerment (evidence, sources and settings) and overall. This simplistic exercise that assumes that all indicators have equal weight and does not account for the differences in levels represented by differences in ranks.
