AN ANALYSIS OF AN INTELLIGENT ENSEMBLE BASED SYSTEM FOR DETECTING AND COMBATING INTRUSION IN COMPUTER NETWORK

ABSTRACT

Due to advancements in computer technology, computer networks, and network communication over the past few decades, the Internet has expanded quickly. Security threats to computer networks have grown as a result of the Internet’s and computer networks’ great and rapid growth (Kruegel et al., 2004). New vulnerabilities are revealed every day, and online attacks happen often. According to Ehlert et al. (2010), it makes the environment of computer networks increasingly vulnerable and unsecure. These risks and weaknesses have the potential to disrupt and have an impact on how well personal, societal, governmental, and organizational operations and functions are carried out (Olusola et al., 2013). As a result, computer network security has grown in importance and become a crucial element of contemporary computer systems (Singh, 2004). Both internal users and external intruders can pose a danger to network security through aberrant activity and misuse (Anderson, 1980). Network security is a defense mechanism against internal and external dangers to guarantee the confidentiality of network communications (Holm, 2012). It shields the network environment against threats such as information loss, Denial of Service (DoS) assaults, illegal access to sensitive data, and alteration and destruction of data and information. There are many different security measures available, such as authentication and access control measures and peripheral protection measures, however these measures are useless against breaches from within. Therefore, there is a huge need for additional degree of integrated security against network intrusions, such as Network Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (NIDPS). Network intrusion can occur in what appears to be normal network traffic (Kruegel et al., 2004; Gollmann, 2006). By aiming to identify aberrant behavior and misuse and preventing it, NIDPS enhances the security system
