THE STUDY OF NATURAL RESOURCE ENDOWMENT OF THE KASHMIR REGION

Dr. Naresh Kumar
Page No. : 101-106

ABSTRACT

Natural resources are defined as "stocks of materials that exist in the natural environment and are both scarce and economically useful in production or consumption, either in their raw state or after minimal processing" (World Trade Report, 2010).They are naturally occurring environmental features or characteristics with high commercial worth (1). A broader definition of resource believes it to be "means of achieving given ends," with the ends ranging from individual satisfaction to social well-being. The basic resources are water, land, timber, and minerals (Zlotin and Zusman, 2005). However, intangible assets like as good health, knowledge, independence, social peace, and so on are also considered resources (Otokiti, 2010). As a result, resources comprise both tangible and intangible items that serve a useful purpose for man and satisfy his desires (Zimmerman, 1933). Thus,’resource’ is a broad term that encompasses both natural and man-made, physical and intangible, material and abstract, substances or things or entities on Earth or elsewhere in the universe that man can employ for his profit. Kashmir region needs to introduce such a plan under which the areas having extraordinarily beautiful landscapes are protected under legislation and managed in such a manner that their natural beauty is enhanced.
