TEACHINGS OF GITA AND THE FIRE AND THE RAIN BY GIRISH KARNAD

Punita, Dr. Ritu Rajvanshi
Page No. : 41-45

ABSTRACT

My present paper deals with the teachings of Bhagavad Gita and how they are relevant to the play The Fire and The Rain written by Girish Karnad. The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient Indian text of philosophy that forms a section of great Indian epic Mahabharata. It became an important work of Hindu tradition in terms of both literature and philosophy. Many Indian English Writers have tried their hands in using Indian Mythology as the basis for their writings, but Girish Karnad is most successful in taking plots from myths and legends. Karnad has taken the Myth of Yavakari from Mahabharata as the plot of his play The Fire and The Rain. He dealt with the theme of salvation and revenge in this play.
