ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hyperkyphosis (exaggerated swayback), a forwards head posture, and a rounded shoulder are all features of Upper Crossed Syndrome (UCS). Yoga, which is not a competitive sport, has been shown to improve one’s posture. “Iyengar yoga” is one kind of “Hatha yoga”.
Method: Current research aimed to assess the impact of “Iyengar yoga” on the UCS in middle-aged, professionally active women. Fifteen middle-aged working women with UCS were selected for this ’s semi applied study. All of the participants did some “Iyengar yoga” moves that targeted their backs and shoulders. UCS was quantified using postprocessing.
Results: After 8 weeks of yoga, there were a continuous increase in spinal flexion angle (P0.005) and a statistically significant reduction in thoracic ankle dorsiflexion angle (P0.00.1).
Conclusion: Those in the field of coaching or therapy who deal with middle-aged working women who are afflicted by UCS are encouraged to investigate “Iyengar yoga” as a potential alternative to traditional training programmes.
