VIEWERS’ PERCEPTION REGARDING PROPAGANDA IN DOCUMENTARY FILMS

ABSTRACT

If we follow Bill Nichols, community of practitioners and constituency of viewers plays important role in analysing documentary films. In this premise, budding filmmakers’ perception regarding propaganda in documentary films, is an important aspect for documentary filmmakers and scholars as well. Current study attempts to explore this issue while analysing opinions of budding filmmakers in India. A structured questionnaire will gather their opinion regarding documentary films made worldwide. Religion, environment, political and social issues in documentary films are the key themes for which perception has been analysed. Objectives of the study are: (a) To find out the difference between Indian and foreign documentary films and it’s perceived impact; (b) To study the relationship between documentary preferences and perceived impact; and (c) To explore the influence of gender of respondents on the influence of documentary films. Survey method has been used to collect and analyse the data. Total 150 responses have been included in the study.
