Page No. : 55-57

ABSTRACT

The environment degradation has attracted the attention of commons as well as scientists from different fields. This has generated the direct need of management and conservation of environment and promotion of pro-environment behavior. In this context, historically speaking men have looked at natural resources as income generating source and on the other hand women have tended to take the environment as a resource of life support system. Hence, it can be assumed that women have a closer relationship with the environment, Moreover, they can play a vital role in the management, conservation and sustainability of the environment. This essay tries to highlight that they manage eco-system by means of saving water, energy, plants, and by maintaining soil nutrition, bio-diversity etc. The present endeavour also echoes that women are now a day’s participating in various programmers that are organized for environment management and conservation. Few of them are also adopting new technologies which are necessary for environment management. They in certain cases participate in environmentalist movement, green-belt movement, and socio-ecological union and also to some extent taking help of relevant legal provisions on environment. The authors feel that the participation of women in such movements is very thin, So women must be sensitized at a great level so that their participation may become more robust, fruitful and creative.
