The teacher’s role assumes great importance for the proper
development of the nation. Only good, career-oriented, inspired, motivated and
fully satisfied teacher can perform his/her task sincerely and truthfully. For
producing good and effective teacher, teacher educators play a prominent role.
Only fully content and motivated teacher educator imparts good and effective
quality education to prospective teacher trainees. Effective motivation to
work, job satisfaction and organizational climate of teacher educators are the
major and probably the important factors in contributing quality education.
This study was therefore meant to motivation to work, job satisfaction and
organizational climate of colleges of education in relation to gender, type of
institution and location. The present study was conducted on teacher educators
in Colleges of Education of Haryana District by using Work Motivation
Questionnaire (WMQ-A) developed by K.G. Agarwal (2012); Teacher’s Job
Satisfaction Scale (TJSS) developed by Mudgil, Muber and Bhatia (2012); and
Organizational Climate Inventory- Somnath Chattopadhyaya and K. G. Agarwal
(Hindi/English). The present study resorted to Descriptive Survey Research
Method. The data for the study was analyzed using multiple statistical procedures:
mean, median, standard deviation, percentile, standard error, skewness,
kurtosis, ANOVA, t-test of significance and coefficient of correlation. This
study was anticipated to provide assistance to both policy makers and
administrators in understanding the degree of influencing factors like gender,
type of institution, location etc. on motivation to work, job satisfaction and
organizational climate of teacher educators of colleges of education. Hence,
this study was conducted with a hope to contribute by its findings to raise the
quality teacher education programme and colleges of education also.
Teacher education is required for developing a purpose and for
formation of a positive attitude for the profession. The success of the
educational process relies to an immutable extent on the characteristics and
competence of the teacher who is the corner stone of the arch of education. The
expansion of teacher education was visualized in terms of quantitative and
qualitative aspects. All the commissions and report emphasised on the quality
of teachers in general and teacher educator in specific. At present teachers
are not the mere propagators of information but facilitators in the path of
students urge for more knowledge.
Recognizing the significance of the insight of motivation to work,
job satisfaction and organizational climate of teacher educators in enhancing
the quality of teacher education programme, this study was executed with an
intent to explore the status of teacher educators’ perception of motivation to
work, job satisfaction and organizational climate, who are working in different
government and self-financed colleges of education located in the rural and
urban areas of Haryana. It was deliberated to explore the extent of
relationship among the variables. The existing teacher training colleges of
education of the state has yet lot to do for teachers in order to bring out
innovations in terms of approach, pedagogy for qualitative improvement of
school education so that they can acknowledge the various demands of the
student community.
This research study attempted to study the relationship among the level of motivation to work, job satisfaction and organizational climate of male and female teacher educators working in government and self financed colleges of education of rural and urban areas.
