ETHNOBOTANICAL USES OF PLANTS IN SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS AND VARIOUS OCCASIONS IN ARID AREA OF SIKAR DISTRICT (RAJASTHAN)

ABSTRACT

Plants are important part of the human culture. Plants are used during different religious ceremonies, festivals and occasions. They also plays an important role in cultural as well as religious ceremonies. On different occasions God and Goddess are worshiped with different plants, their parts and with their by products. Different human community utilize different plants in different ways. In this paper different plants are discussed, during birth role of 17 plants is given, in marriage 9 and during death role of 13 plants are provided. Total number of plants utilized during festivals are 34 and during religious and other occasions are 27. In this research paper xerophytic plants of a poor rural area like Sikar directly reflects the religious life style of human beings living there. The research paper shows the importance of plants and its products like wood in each and every religious event of life from birth to death. All the religious information obtained in this research have motive to conserve it in documented form.
