According to forbs India, more than 1000 films are being produced in
India every year in different languages. On the basis of number of films every
year, the Indian film industry is regarded as the world’s largest film industry
in terms of the number of the films produced and those films are viewed by
millions of audience. In the last decade, the films introduced on various
issues of the society have earned a lot of viewer’s appreciation and critically
acclaim. But the basic question remains whether the films being viewed by the
audience meet the needs of the society. Films are criticised vehemently and
vociferously. Some scholars hold that escalating violence in our society rests
with the responsibility for cinema. Even some researcher maintains that people
watch violence in films are growing more violent, belligerent and pugnacious.
So, study the impact of violence shown in films becomes in the Indian context
more imperative. Therefore, before understanding the impact of the violence
shown in movies, it is necessary to understand how adolescents perceive
violence in movies.
