Dual-career couples were exceptions to the norm in the 1960s, but on
date it is difficult to assess the number of married career women in the work
force. Previous researches suggest that, the problems of the working women, who
are a significant part of a dual career couple, may include lack of flexibility
in the workplace, male-trailing spouses, career versus relationship child
bearing conflicts etc.The main purpose of the study is to theoretically find
out the impact of role conflict and stress at work which affects their job
performance among employed couples who are working as school teachers in Gurugram
district, to suggest remedial measures to overcome stress. From the study it
was found both male and female respondents face more stress since they have
multiple roles. Gender differential was found to be wide. The main reason for
the employed couples that creates high level of stress is as follows Excessive
work load, limited time and strict words from your higher authorities,
Contradiction with your seniors and higher authorities, Unpleasant comments
from your higher authority, Unfavorable decisions related to increments, Family
responsibility and conflict with spouse, Long Hours working without proper
rest, Leave related Matters, Conflict with your Colleagues/Boss, Household
Affairs after working, and Socio-economic status of my immediate neighbors is
much higher than that of mine.
