ETHNOBOTANICAL STUDY OF XEROPHYTIC VEGETATION IN RAJGARH TEHSIL OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA

ABSTRACT

Plants are used as multipurpose in daily life like nutrition, medicines, agriculture, textiles, house construction, fuel etc. These are basic needs of poor people residing rural areas. So for ethnobotanical study of plants, on area of xerophytic zone is selected i.e. Rajgarh tehsil of Churu district, Rajasthan, India. Both wild as well as cultivated plants are selected used by local people. The study revealed 85 species, 70 genus and 38 families. Some literature is used for identification. Following data is discussed scientific name, families, local name, habit, habitat, part used, ethnobotanical uses in respect to different application. An interview of elder persons was held which gained their knowledge from their parents, grand parents and neighours. Majority of plant species from Poaceae, Fabaceae, Mimosaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Malvaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Lamiaceae families and being used in various ways in daily life. The aim of present paper is to develop, document and conserve the indigenous enthnobotanical knowledge of local people about xerophytic plants which they use a daily life in various ways.
