The
Post Colonial style of writing is a branch of Post Modern literature concerned
with the Political and Cultural independence of peoples formerly subjugated in
Colonial empires. It deals with the conflict between ruler and subject, main
stream and marginalized oppressors and oppressed and, at the same time
celebrates the suppressed "Other", challenging the dominant culture
and questioning concepts of established authority. R.K. Narayan, the most
popular Indian novelist, is a post colonial writer. His masterpiece, The Guide
abounds with post Colonial elements. Post Colonial writings are attempts at
reviving the ethnic cultures, traditions, beliefs, languages etc. The Post
Colonial literature inculcates pride in one’s own ancient culture and
traditions.
