Role of Green Spaces in Enhancing Urban Livability: A Case Study Approach

Manisha, Poonam
Page No. : 214-219

ABSTRACT

Urban green spaces are crucial for enhancing the quality of life in cities. These areas—such as parks, gardens, green belts, and urban forests—support environmental sustainability, promote physical and mental well-being, mitigate urban heat island effects, and foster social cohesion. In the context of India’s rapidly urbanizing population and increasing stress on natural ecosystems, this paper explores how green spaces contribute to urban livability. Drawing on international frameworks and Indian case studies from cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad, the study highlights the opportunities and challenges of integrating green infrastructure in urban planning. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for sustainable urban greening initiatives.
